.45 caliber carbine

.45 Caliber Carbine - The Marline Camp Carbine was introduced in 1985 and enjoyed great success until it was discontinued in 1999. Two versions are available: .45 ACP chambered in the 1911 cartridge, and a 9mm version in the Smith & Wesson Model 59 cartridge. Of course, Colt and other manufacturers offers a 9mm carbine based on the AR-15 platform.

The past few years have seen a resurgence in the popularity of pistol-caliber carbines. IDPA, ISPC and USPSA have added courses for pistol-caliber carbine classes to their official matches.

Introduced in December 2017, the Ruger PC (pistol caliber) Carbine has proven to be one of the most popular.

The receiver is CNC machined from billet 7075-T6 aluminum, has an integrated Picatinny rail and a Type III hard anodized finish. Like Ford's Model A, you can have it in any color you want, as long as it's black. The camouflage and flat dark earth models shown here are seller exclusives although they are not hard to find.

The 16.12-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged chrome-moly steel with a 1:10 twist. Although the barrel has a heavy contour, five grooves help reduce weight which means quick handling. Threaded barrel for barrel barrel (includes silencer). A thread protection cap is also included.

The ring-shaped adjustable rear sight, combined with the shielded front sight, offers a fast and accurate aiming system.

The glass filled nylon synthetic stock has a protective texture on the pistol grip area and forend that provides a secure grip. The strap attachment points are located on the back of the stock and the front.

The stock is covered with a soft rubber pad and has three 1/2 inch spacers to accommodate a variety of bodies, clothing, equipment, etc.

The PC Carbine is removed for storage or transport by simply locking the breech, pushing the recessed lever on the front, rotating the subassembly and separating it.

The PC Carbine uses Ruger SR-series or Security-9 magazines, although the SR series is fired from a notch in front of the magazine and the Security-9 from the side. Smart.

Taking it a step further, Ruger realized that the most popular pistol was still the Glock and included a magazine well that would hold Glock magazines. Changing the magnetic well can be done easily in less than five minutes. Ruger American Pistol magazine wells are available at ShopRuger.com.

Both the magazine release handle and the charging handle are reversible. The carbine came with the charging handle on the right side, but I changed it to the left side so I could maintain a grip while loading the carbine.

The carbine comes with a manual, one 17-round SR series magazine, a hex key for rear sight adjustment, spacer adjustment and charging handle removal, and the obligatory rifle lock.

I joined my lineup with a few of each of the following: SR frame, Security-9, Glock 19 OEM, PMAG 15 and PMAG 17. To further evaluate reliability, I tried several different brands and types of 9mm Luger ammo.

I shot the carbine with a fully loaded magazine, mixing different types of ammo between frames to see if anyone preferred a certain type. They do not.

The carbine will accept (left to right) Ruger SR9, Ruger Security-9, Glock and (not pictured) Ruger American Pistol frames.

Shooting from 25 yards, tearing through the middle of the B8 repair center is so routine it becomes boring. I threw a few pre-emptied adult drink containers onto the beam and had a lot of fun getting them to jump into the air only to repeat the process once they landed. Sometimes - OK, twice - I got a second shot before the can fell.

A friend who was following me, after seeing me empty some Ruger magazines, remarked that it was too bad the carbine didn't accept a frame for his Glock. Wait for my coffee!

After a quick magazine change, I held out the carbine and he loaded one of his G17 magazines. After shooting the Ruger PC Carbine, and when he finally managed to stop grinning, he said, "I've got to get myself one of those!"

If the above isn't enough to make you sit up and take notice, the PC Carbine is a bargain at $649.00 MSRP, and I've seen it on sale for as low as $550. Not all semi-automatic rifles have to be pretty  — and they don't have to sell for a price that can break the bank.

Hi Point demonstrates both concepts with the Hi Point Model 4595 .45 ACP Semi-Automatic Carbine. While you may know Hi Point for their pistols, their carbines are also noteworthy.

Hi Point makes their .45 carbine easy and comfortable to use. This seven-pound carbine has a polymer frame stock with a recoil pad. Plus, it uses the same magazine as the .45 ACP Hi-Point pistol!

The Five Best Pistol Caliber Carbines

But what about looks? Well, the Hi Point carbine has a distinctive and rugged look. Some call it obtrusive (and others ugly). No matter what you call it, you can choose a black, digital desert, jungle or pink camouflage design.

Now let's talk about the features and functions. The .45 ACP carbine comes with an adjustable front sight and an adjustable ghost ring rear sight. There are also Weaver-style rails on the top and bottom of the gun for accessories, such as a light, red dot or scope. The bolt of this blowback carbine opens after the magazine is empty.

Because of the simple design, there is less that can go wrong. Hi Point carabiners have a reputation for reliability. It is not unusual to hear several hundred rounds through this gun without stalls, jams or damage. You may also hear stories of rusted or old Hi Point .45 carbines being used without any problems (not that I would recommend them!).

.45 Caliber Carbine

The best part of the Hi Point .45 ACP carbine is probably its price. Why pay thousands when you can get a .45 carbine for less than $300? But that's not the only thing going for this gun.

Four Advantages Of Pistol Caliber Carbines

The Hi Point Carbine is an American made weapon with American components. It's fun to shoot and it's reliable. Hi Point also offers a great warranty so you can feel confident in your purchase.

Given its price, you might think that the Hi Point .45 Carbine would suffer in accuracy. And that's where you'd go wrong. The .45 ACP can get impressive groups at 25, 50, and even 100 yards. Try it yourself if you want to be surprised!

Is the Hi Point .45 carbine the prettiest and ultimate handgun? Maybe not. But it's a comfortable gun that's easy to use and costs a fraction of the price of most semi-autos. It gets the job done - reliably, accurately, and for years to come.
