3d print glock lower

3d Print Glock Lower - In April 2020, the Toronto Police Service seized a Glock-type self-loading pistol. To the uninitiated, it may look like a modified factory-made Glock handgun, but it's actually a hand-built gun made using a 3D-printed frame. This is often called a 'parts kit conversion' or 'parts kit completion' (PKC) build, in which the slide, barrel and trigger components are of commercial origin, but the frame is manufactured using a 3D printer. Major components—such as the frame or receiver—are legally regulated.

The frame used in this particular PKC build appears to be the 'BTB G26' model. It's a 3D-printable frame that accepts the Glock 26 slide and barrel, but uses the Glock 19 locking block and incorporates internal rails modeled after the Glock 19 models. Seen at the top left of the picture are two screw rails (mostly made of aluminum) that guide the slide into response. Other visible parts such as the slide and trigger are not factory-genuine Glock parts. Instead, these aftermarket parts are produced by the manufacturer, usually at a lower cost than original Glock parts. Some of these components are specifically marketed for 80% lower consumption, which are used in PKC builds that do not involve 3D printing.

The layer lines commonly found on 3D-printed Glock frames are hard to spot in this example, but a trained eye will notice them around the takedown lever. Attached to the bottom of the frame are the tell-tale steps, showing that the frame was printed onto the printbed above it. The frame appears to have been built by hand.

The production of 3D-printed pistol frames, and the nature of PKC built more generally, is discussed in ARES' recent report, Desktop Firearms: Emergent Small Arms Craft Production Technologies.

Remember, all weapons and ammunition are dangerous. Keep all firearms loaded and use all live ammunition unless you personally check. Unless you have expert knowledge, never assume firearms or ammunition are safe to handle until they have been examined by a subject matter expert. You must not access, handle, move, operate or modify firearms and ammunition unless expressly trained. If you encounter any unexploded ordnance (UXO) or explosive remnants of war (ERW), always remember the abbreviation 'ARMS':
