Fort Benning, Ga. -- At a morning ceremony July 31 here at Sand Hill for the 3rd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment at Cannell Field to carry out its mission of training new infantrymen.

The unit is the second of three units planned to be activated within the 198th Infantry Brigade, and will help the 198th fully implement 22-week single station unit training in 2018.

"The activation of this new battalion will give the brigade the ability to put more infantrymen and women with the soldiering skills it needs to be a strong soldier," said Lt. Col. Patrick Flynn, the battalion's new commander. To carry out their mission in the FORSCOM units that we send.
